On the 20th of February I tabled the motion attached at the LCC meeting calling for the Government to urgently reform the Commercial Rates System Motion Commercial Rates Reform Feb 17.
Although my fellow Councillors voted to remove points 3 & 4 I am happy that points 1 & 2 were passed.
I was delighted when my party Colleague Deputy Breathnach subsequently took up the mantle and raised my motion as a parliamentary question to An Taoiseach on the 28th of February 2017 https://www.facebook.com/breathnach.declan/videos/1407327346004956/
As I said when proposing the motion SME’s are the backbone of our economy and need the States support to bring in a fair and transparent commercial rate system.
Despite this Government giving assurances that the Commercial Rates System would be reviewed, the Dail Legislative Programme for Spring/Summer 2017 does not even contain heads of agreement or terms of reference to be discussed or debated in this term.
